A Few Days in Sicily That Feel Like a Whole Season

A Few Days in Sicily That Feel Like a Whole Season

Key Highlights

Get Your Hands Dirty in the Kitchen

The cooking workshops run from 11:00 AM to 3:30 PM in the farmhouse kitchen, with traditional Sicilian recipes and fresh ingredients from the estate guiding the whole morning. The pace is easy, the atmosphere is warm, and the skills you pick up are genuinely useful ones to take home. A shared lunch brings the session to a close in the best way, with everyone sitting down together at the end of a very enjoyable few hours. For anyone who loves food and wants to understand it a little better, this is a very good morning at a Sicily farm stay.

Lunch in the Trees

Good food, good wine, a treehouse, and nothing but open Sicilian countryside around you is the whole idea behind this experience, and it works beautifully. The picnic is quiet and unhurried, with no schedule and no rush, just time spent well in the middle of the estate's natural landscape. After lunch, the cabin is up there waiting, and the view from it is more than enough reason to climb up.

Drinks as the Sun Goes Down

There is something about watching the sun go down over golden wheat fields with a glass of sparkling wine in your hand that feels completely right. The service includes sparkling wine, a savory aperitif, and a short transfer to the outdoor area, and the whole experience lasts about an hour. Running every day from June to mid-September, details are shared with guests at check-in.

Wellness and Massage

Wellness at Susafa is personal and flexible, never scheduled or rushed. Qualified professionals offer facial and body treatments using organic oils and Sicilian fragrances, either outdoors under the carob tree in a private space surrounded by tall hedges and white curtains, or in the comfort of your own room. Outdoor sessions run from June to September, and in-room treatments are available all year round, both lasting around one hour.

Dinner for Two Under the Stars

A tasting menu built from the garden's own seasonal produce, a table set just for two, and the night sky above you is a very hard evening to improve on. The setting is exclusive and fully staffed, and the whole experience is designed to feel romantic and unhurried from start to finish. Available every day from June to mid-September, drinks are not included, and dietary needs should be shared at the time of booking.

Wine Night with Manfredi

Every Thursday at 6:00 PM, owner Manfredi takes guests through a Sicilian wine tasting in the old winery, covering up to ten biodynamic and spontaneously fermented wines from producers across the island. The session lasts about two hours, and by the end of it, Sicily starts to feel like a place you understand a little better through what is in the glass. It is genuinely one of the highlights of any stay at Susafa.

A Day Out on the Water

Susafa's own sailboat, the Quasar, leaves from Palermo and heads out to the quiet coves along Sicily's northern coast, with a captain who knows the water well. There is time to swim, enjoy the deck, and sit down to a prepared lunch at one of the stops along the way. Available from April to October upon request, with transfers to and from Palermo arranged for an additional fee.

More about this escape

Susafa is a Sicily wellness retreat that puts nature and honest food at the center of everything. Mornings begin with a buffet of homemade cakes, biscuits, tarts, and fresh bread with the farm's own olive oil, and it is the kind of breakfast that sets a very good tone for the rest of the day. The restaurant Il Granaio serves Italian and Sicilian dishes in a stone-walled dining room with high vaulted ceilings that make every meal feel like a bit of an occasion. Outside, a pool sits in the green Mediterranean landscape, and a lounge with a fireplace is ready for the cooler evenings. Wellness professionals are on hand for massages and treatments using organic oils and Sicilian fragrances, available outdoors under the carob tree or inside your room. The grounds are full of wheat fields, olive groves, and wild flowers, and the farm produces its own olive oil, corn, and jams. The only sounds at Susafa are natural ones, and that very quickly becomes something you did not know you needed.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arriving at Susafa

After settling in, a slow walk through the wheat fields and olive groves is the best way to get a feel for the estate and let the pace of the place take over. As the afternoon moves toward evening, the aperitif in the fields is a perfect first experience, with sparkling wine and the warm Sicilian light doing most of the work. Dinner at Il Granaio brings the first day to a warm and easy close.

Meals: Dinner at Il Granaio

Activities: Estate walk, aperitif in the fields at sunset

Day 2: The Kitchen and the Stars

A buffet breakfast opens the morning before heading into the kitchen for the cooking workshop, which carries through to early afternoon and ends with a shared lunch around the table. The afternoon is free for a massage under the carob tree or time by the pool, both of which are equally good options. That evening, the romantic outdoor tasting menu under the stars is a dinner that is genuinely difficult to follow up.

Meals: Breakfast, cooking workshop lunch, romantic outdoor tasting menu dinner

Activities: Cooking workshop, massage under the carob tree, pool

Day 3: Trees, Wine, and Open Sky

A morning walk or bike ride through the countryside eases the day in before the treehouse picnic takes over the afternoon with good food and wine in the middle of the Susafa landscape. The cabin is a beautiful place to sit and rest after lunch, and the view from up there is one of the better ones on the estate. The Sicilian wine tasting with Manfredi closes the evening with up to ten wines and the stories of the island behind every one of them.

Meals: Breakfast, treehouse picnic lunch, wine tasting

Activities: Walking or cycling, treehouse picnic, Sicilian wine tasting with Manfredi

Day 4: Out on the Water and a Gentle Goodbye

A final breakfast at the farmhouse starts the last day before heading to Palermo for the Quasar sailing excursion, with beautiful coves, clear water, and lunch on board along the way. Back at the estate in the afternoon, a walk through the olive groves or a quiet hour by the pool is a very calm way to bring the stay to a close before checking out. Susafa is the kind of place that stays with people, and the warmth and the food and the land all have a way of coming home with you.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch on board Quasar

Activities: Quasar sailing excursion, pool, farewell walk

Contrada Susafa, Polizzi Generosa PA, Italy

Susafa is an 18th-century stone farmhouse in the Sicilian countryside, and it has been looked after by the same family for over two centuries. The property is built around good food, open land, and a pace of life that gives you real room to breathe. From a homemade breakfast to a wine tasting in the old winery, every part of the stay connects back to the land and the traditions that have shaped this place for generations. Slow down here, and Sicily starts to make a lot more sense.

Your Accommodation

Susafa has a small and thoughtfully chosen collection of rooms and suites, all designed to feel calm, personal, and connected to the natural landscape outside. Classic Double rooms were once the farmhouse stables and now have clean, minimalist interiors with garden views that keep things simple and restful. Superior Double rooms sit in the former apartments of the sharecroppers and cheesemaker, and the quiet, personal atmosphere makes them a natural fit for a romantic stay. Junior Suites range from 24 to 37 square meters, with some offering a split-level layout and others featuring a private ground-floor terrace with sun loungers. Classic Suites are 45 square meters with private outdoor spaces, direct garden access, and warm natural materials that feel very much at home in the Sicilian countryside. Both the Superior Suite and Deluxe Suite offer 70 square meters of well-considered space, and the Deluxe Suite is the standout on the property, with a wellness bathroom that includes a sauna, walk-in shower, and bathtub built for a very special stay.
