More about this escape
Topas Ecolodge is set inside Hoang Lien National Park, built from white granite pulled from the mountains that surround it on all sides. Each of the 50 hillside bungalows has a private balcony with open views of the valleys and peaks, and interiors are kept simple using local Vietnamese materials. The Sapa region is home to Red Dao and Black H'mong communities whose way of life has stayed close to tradition for generations, and guided walks bring you directly into those villages. Activities range from trekking and cycling to textile workshops and spa treatments, so there is always something to do, whether the day calls for adventure or rest. The lodge is also recognized by National Geographic as one of the best places to stay for travelers who care about the environment.
Itinerary
Day 1: Into the Mountains
Pickup in Hanoi is at 6:30 AM for the five-hour drive north aboard the Topas Mountain Express, a comfortable minivan stocked with snacks, water, and Wi-Fi for the journey. Arrival is timed for lunch on the open patio at Stilt House Restaurant, and check-in follows shortly after, with a fresh fruit bowl and wildflowers already waiting inside the bungalow. The afternoon is set aside for a private picnic with fruit and wine as the mountains catch the last of the daylight, and the evening ends with a candlelight dinner for two at the restaurant.
Meals: Lunch and Candlelight Dinner
Activities: N/A
Day 2: Trails and Tranquility
Champagne breakfast is delivered to the room to start the morning, and from there, you head out on a three-hour hike to Nam Cang Village, one of the most remote communities in the Sapa area. The trail passes through mountain terrain and ethnic minority settlements, giving a real sense of how far this part of Vietnam sits from the busier parts of the country. Back at the lodge, a 60-minute couples massage at the Rice Spa fills the afternoon, and the evening ends with outdoor cinema under an open sky, with popcorn and soda set out for two.
Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
Activities: 3-hour jungle hike, 60-minute couples massage at Rice Spa
Day 3: Last Light in the Valley
A full breakfast buffet at Stilt House Restaurant opens the final morning with plenty of options to start the day well. The remaining hours until the 2:30 PM departure are free, whether that means the infinity pools, a last walk through the hills, or a quiet hour on the balcony. The return journey reaches Noi Bai Airport between 7:00 and 7:30 PM, with drop-off in Hanoi city center by 8:00 PM.
Meals: Breakfast

What to Wear and Bring
Wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and trekking shoes for the village walks and hikes. Bring insect repellent, sunglasses, a sun hat, and sunscreen since you will be outdoors for several hours each day.
Local Vendors
During village walks, ethnic women may follow you trying to sell handcrafted items throughout the journey. Politely decline if you are not interested in buying. The lodge apologizes for this, but cannot control it.
Seasonal Farming Schedule
Village visits include stops at local homes to meet families. During planting and harvest seasons, many people work in the fields all day and may not be home when you visit, which can affect this part of the experience
