Key Highlights

Farm-to-Table Dining

Meals use produce picked fresh from the gardens and fruit from trees growing right on the land. What gets served changes with the seasons and includes ingredients like wild sorrel, mulberries, and persimmons, along with traditional Himachali Dham feasts. The Amaya Lab preserves any unused food through pickling and fermentation to avoid throwing anything away. You can eat in the restaurant, at picnics by the river, or around fires under the moon when the weather allows. Travelers who enjoy this kind of farm-grown menu can also look at our Pokhara Lakeside Wellness Escape in Nepal.

Himachali Dham Feast

This traditional meal celebrates the food culture of Himachali communities through a feast that brings people together. Every area in Himachal Pradesh makes dham slightly differently, and the version at Amaya includes eight to ten courses. Each dish uses ingredients grown nearby or on the farm and is prepared with modern cooking techniques. The meal centers on joy, celebration, and sharing food with others.

Sunset Picnic

A 25-minute walk with a guide brings you to a quiet spot chosen for its views. You sit down and watch the sky change colors as the sun sets over the hills and valleys. A picnic or high tea is set up and ready while darkness slowly settles over the landscape. The moment feels unhurried, allowing you to fully take in the beauty around you.

Wellness Outdoors

A outdoor pool built from stone offers views of pine-covered hills all around. Yoga and meditation happen outside in quiet spots under the open sky. Saunas and reading areas sit in different places for anyone wanting time alone. The entire setting encourages slowing down and reconnecting with both nature and self. Outdoor sessions like these are part of what our Holistic Wellness trips offer.

Village Walk

A walk through Darwa village shows how mountain people live their daily lives and welcome visitors warmly. Tea shared with local families brings out stories about ancestors who left wars in the northern plains long ago and settled in these mountains. The way people live here has changed very little, even while cities around them have transformed completely. Visits like this fit naturally with our Heritage & Cultural Retreat journeys.

Farm Trails

A guide who knows the gardens well walks you through the terraced plots where seasonal vegetables and fruits grow organically. You learn about how the property avoids waste and grows food in ways that help rather than harm the land. Fresh berries, sweet pea shoots, and other produce get picked right off the plants for you to taste. The tour uses all your senses as you see, smell, and sample how food grows when it is treated with care.

River Gamber Walk

This guided walk takes two hours through pine forest to reach a peaceful spot beside the River Gamber. Places to rest are set up along the way so the journey does not feel too long. At the riverside, a picnic is laid out with hot butter rum while the sound of flowing water fills the background. Getting there requires driving one hour each way from Amaya, and the food and drinks cost extra.

Wellness Treatments

Wellness at Amaya focuses on creating the right conditions for calm to happen naturally rather than forcing it. Treatments use knowledge passed down locally and happen in rooms where you can hear the wind moving through the pine trees outside. Each session starts by understanding what you need and what the environment around you suggests. Options include Saans, a massage that blends Swedish and deep tissue methods to let go of tension; Spar-sha, which works on the back, neck, and shoulders using skilled touch; Sham, a foot reflexology treatment that works well after walking trails all day; and Shiro, a traditional head massage based on Ayurvedic practices that helps restore balance throughout your whole body.

Nature Hikes and Foraging

Guided walks through forests teach about local plants and how they support each other in nature. Foraging trips led by experts show where to find wild berries and herbs growing among the fruit trees on the property. Stone paths and trails follow natural patterns through the land and help you see how life moves with the seasons. Each walk reveals parts of the forest that most guests would never discover walking alone.

More about this escape

Amaya was built entirely by hand without any cement, using stone walls, copper roofing, and wood from the surrounding area. Traditional mountain building styles that villages have used for hundreds of years were updated to work for today without copying the past. Vegetables grow in organic gardens on terraced hillsides while a thousand fruit trees, including apple, pear, plum, mulberry, fig, and citrus, provide fresh produce year-round. Chefs prepare meals with what is in season, mixing mountain food traditions with flavors from other parts of the world. You can spend days walking through gardens, picking wild berries.
